JCI-Accredited Hospitals in Vietnam: What Does JCI Accreditation Really Mean?
Written by Dr. Quy Nguyen
What Does JCI Accreditation Tell You About a Hospital?
JCI stands for Joint Commission International, an international accreditation organization focused on healthcare quality and patient safety.
When a hospital receives JCI accreditation, it means the organization has undergone an external assessment against applicable standards covering areas such as patient care, medication management, infection prevention, communication, quality improvement and organizational safety systems.

For international patients, JCI accreditation can indicate that a hospital has established systems for managing healthcare quality and patient safety and has undergone an independent assessment against international standards.
However, JCI is not a hospital ranking and does not guarantee individual treatment outcomes. It also does not mean that every JCI-accredited hospital is suitable for every medical condition. The treating doctor, relevant specialty, clinical capabilities and proposed treatment plan still need to be evaluated separately. Likewise, a hospital without JCI accreditation should not automatically be considered unsuitable, as hospitals in Vietnam also operate under national licensing and regulatory requirements.
JCI can be a useful indicator of quality and patient-safety systems, but choosing a hospital requires a broader assessment of the facility’s actual ability to meet the patient’s treatment needs. Important factors include the relevant specialty, doctor experience, clinical capabilities, medical equipment, complication management and post-treatment follow-up. For international patients, language support, appointment coordination, expected length of stay, estimated costs and follow-up after returning home can also significantly affect the overall medical journey. Ultimately, the most suitable hospital is one that can appropriately match the patient’s specific medical condition and treatment plan.
JCI-Accredited Hospitals in Vietnam
Several hospitals in Vietnam currently hold JCI accreditation, with some maintaining their accreditation across multiple assessment cycles. The table below summarizes the latest publicly available JCI accreditation or re-accreditation milestones.
Because accreditation status can change, patients should verify the latest information through the official JCI directory before making treatment decisions.
| Hospital | Latest JCI Accreditation / Re-accreditation |
|---|---|
| Vinmec Times City International Hospital | 4th JCI accreditation – October 2024. The hospital first achieved JCI accreditation on 26 June 2015, received its second accreditation in June 2018, its third in 2021, and its fourth in October 2024. The latest accreditation was under JCI Academic Medical Center standards. |
| Vinmec Central Park International Hospital | 3rd JCI accreditation – 2024. The hospital first achieved JCI accreditation in June 2017, was re-accredited for the second time in January 2021, and completed its third JCI assessment in February 2024; Vinmec’s sustainability reporting records the milestone in March 2024. |
| FV Hospital | 4th consecutive JCI accreditation – April 2025. FV first achieved JCI in 2016, followed by re-accreditations in 2019, 2022 and 2025. |
| American International Hospital (AIH) | 2nd JCI accreditation – 2025. AIH first passed the JCI assessment in November 2022. It completed its second re-accreditation survey in September 2025, with the second Gold Seal formally announced on 5 November 2025. |
| Blood Transfusion Hematology Hospital | 1st JCI accreditation – 22 November 2024. This is therefore still within the normal JCI accreditation cycle in 2026, unless its status is subsequently changed or withdrawn. |
| Phuong Chau International Hospital – Can Tho | 2nd JCI accreditation – 2025. The hospital first achieved JCI on 24 September 2022 and was recognized for a second time in 2025. Phuong Chau reported a subsequent system-level JCI assessment in November 2025. |
| Phuong Chau International Hospital – Soc Trang | 1st JCI accreditation – 7 December 2024. It subsequently became one of the member hospitals supporting Phuong Chau Healthcare Group’s JCI Enterprise accreditation. |
| Phuong Nam Hospital | 1st JCI accreditation – 2024. Phuong Chau’s official materials confirm that Phuong Nam achieved facility-level JCI accreditation in 2024 and, together with Phuong Chau Can Tho and Soc Trang, supported the Group’s JCI Enterprise accreditation on 30 December 2024. The official sources I found do not state the exact facility-level accreditation day, so I would not invent one. |

How to Verify JCI Accreditation
Patients should not rely solely on a JCI logo displayed on a hospital website, brochure or advertisement. Instead, accreditation should be verified for the specific healthcare facility and location where treatment will take place. This is particularly important for healthcare groups with multiple hospitals or branches, as JCI accreditation may apply to a specific facility rather than every location within the same system. Because JCI accreditation requires continued compliance and periodic reassessment, historical accreditation information may not reflect a hospital’s current status. If JCI accreditation is important to your decision, verify the facility through the official Joint Commission International Accredited Organizations Directory before booking treatment or making travel arrangements.
Even after verifying JCI status, comparing hospitals can still be challenging for international patients, particularly when considering doctors, treatment plans, costs, length of stay and other practical requirements at the same time.
